Rocky Mountain High: Anti-Choice Measures Stopped In Their Tracks

Voters were not fooled! Voters are pro-choice! Three out of three anti-choice measures on state ballots were thrown off the mountain. Pro-choice victories all around!

Words of Choice, of course, traveled to Colorado (cast members, pictured, Carl H. Jaynes, Crista Marie Jackson, Claudia Schneider), where Amendment 48, attempting to declare that life begin at fertilization was thoroughly rejected -- 75 percent to 25 percent! The most drastic anti-abortion measure in the country was rejected out-of-hand. Thank you, Colorado!

In South Dakota, voters were subjected to another anti-abortion measure -- this one a ban on abortion with ridiculously limited exceptions. They rejected it, just as two years ago (Words of Choice traveled there in 2006), they rejected a different version. Voters said now this time with an 11-12 point differential, even though the state went for McCain! Thank you, South Dakota!

In California, voters rejected a measure that would have required doctors to notify the parents of teens that their daughters were requesting an an abortion or face criminal penalties. For the THIRD time, voters said NO! Thank you, California!

These measures, especially the first two, would have affected women across the country, had they been passed. The anti-abortion, anti-contraception groups promoting them wanted to create a "train wreck" with Roe v. Wade. So here is the big picture for the anti-choice crowd from the top of the mountain: voters don't want your nonsense! Take a hike! Go home. Leave women alone.
